2012 Presidential Debate

Issued: Oct. 23, 2012 Village Citation

Statement: Presidential debates often serve to underscore our partisan divide, which is why it was so refreshing to witness the third and final “throwdown” between President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney. Mssrs. Obama and Romney made things easy for debate host Bob Schieffer as they expressed agreement on the need for a stronger military, more drone bombings and interventions, a hard line against Iran and a distaste for sequestration cuts—principles we in the Village hold dear. To cite just one example, here's what Mitt Romney had to say on the president's foreign policy:

“And, and we're going to have to recognize that we have to do as the president has done. I congratulate him on, on taking out Osama bin Laden and going after the leadership in al Qaeda.”

The third debate provided a respite from the divisive campaign and a chance for us to celebrate Village values. For that, we offer this citation to Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.
