The Village Times

Brian Williams

Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie...and Brian Williams! The Village's Voice of the Regular Guy, Brian once filled the ample shoes of Tom Brokaw as our most respected TV news anchor, until his enthusiasm for war got the better of him. Though he grew up in New Jersey, Brian's heart resides in Montana with Joe Sixpack and the denizens of the local dirt track. Current and former Defense Department higher ups will always have a place at his desk.

Resumé: Anchor, NBC Nightly News, MSNBC .

Specialties: Defining aggressive military interventions as the sensible foreign policy approach. Reinforcing “seriousness” of the Village by deriding bloggers and scolding the media for running frivolous stories.

Achievements: Gave air time to war-promoting retired generals working for the Pentagon and for companies that benefited from policies they defended. Scored first major media interview with Edward Snowden. Expressed admiration for Rush Limbaugh. Gave "slightly exaggerated" accounts of his wartime reporting.

Sample quote: “You're going to be up against people who have an opinion, a modem, and a bathrobe. All of my life, developing credentials to cover my field of work, and now I'm up against a guy named Vinny in an efficiency apartment in the Bronx who hasn't left the efficiency apartment in two years”

-speaking to New York University journalism students, April 2007.
