The Village Times

Michael Bloomberg thumb

Mayor, New York City

Issued: November 2011
Statement: Mayor Bloomberg has done more than enough to merit a Village citation over the years, including, but not limited to: leveraging financial clout for political power; boosting Americans Elect, a third party that exists in the vast space between establishment Democrats and their Republican counterparts; and shifting blame for the financial crisis from banks to mortgage holders. But on this occasion, we single Michael out for something he said in defense of his decision to eject the Occupy Wall Street protestors from Zuccotti Park. The mayor stated, in part, that “we must never be afraid to insist on compliance with our laws.”

In uttering this stirring defense of the Rule of Law, Mayor Bloomberg displayed a key component of Village sensibility: the complete absence of any sense of irony.

Cheers, hizzoner!
